Donating Sol Man to the Santa Fe Community Foundation

This Friday at 10:30am at the Santa Fe Community College, Trades and Advanced Technology Building entrance, one of my sculptures, Sol Man, will be officially donated to the SSFC permanent art collection.Sol Man front

Last year I created Sol Man in collaboration with the Santa Fe Community College- Energy Smart Academy, Santa Fe Public Schools, PNM, and City of Santa Fe Sustainability Program. The project was funded by a Toyota TogetherGreen fellowship through the National Audubon Society. For details read more about Sol Man.

I decided to donate this sculpture to SFCC for a variety of reasons:
–  I have taken classes and collaborated with several instructors and departments at SFCC for over 15 years, this community has given so much to me!
–  The SFCC Energy Smart Academy, represented by Amanda Evans, was involved in creating Sol Man from the very beginning including supplying me with most of the materials I used to make the sculpture.
–  I am moving to Portland, OR this summer and would love to have one of my pieces remain in Santa Fe after I leave.

I am honored that the College will display Sol Man prominently in the entrance to the Trades and Advanced Technology Center. Among other subjects this is where renewable energy and energy efficiency classes are taught, I can not think of a better place for Sol Man to live.

The Friday unveiling event will also include SFCC’s new  demonstration solar array, and kicks-off a weekend long Solar Fiesta at the College.

Thank you to all the staff at SFCC for all your support of my work over the years!
